UCT is looking for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer I to join us in Hillsboro, OR! The Mechanical Design Engineer I supports the design, development, and documentation of mechanical components and assemblies used in semiconductor equipment or facility-related systems. Working under guidance from senior engineers, this role creates models, drawings, and design updates, performs basic engineering analyses, and supports prototype builds and testing. The Engineer I contributes to reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective designs through disciplined execution and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • Foundational knowledge of mechanical design concepts, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX, Inventor).
  • Ability to read and create engineering drawings and apply GD&T fundamentals.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to follow engineering procedures and work under guidance in a technical environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Internship or project experience in mechanical design, equipment design, or precision manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor equipment, vacuum systems, motion systems, or gas/fluid subsystems.
  • Exposure to tolerance analysis, simple stress/thermal checks, or prototyping methods.
  • Experience with PLM/ERP systems, ECO processes, or basic engineering analysis tools.
  • Demonstrated teamwork capability in multidisciplinary engineering settings.
  • Coursework or training in CAD, machine design, materials, or manufacturing processes.
  • Certifications in CAD platforms (SolidWorks, Creo, etc.).
  • Cleanroom or semiconductor equipment training (if applicable to the site).

Responsibilities

  • Create 3D models, engineering drawings, and part/assembly documentation using CAD tools.
  • Assist in designing mechanical components, brackets, frames, enclosures, fluid/gas handling systems, or tooling.
  • Review and update drawings and BOMs; ensure design accuracy, version control, and change documentation (ECO/ECN).
  • Perform basic engineering analyses (tolerance stackups, material selection, fit/function reviews) under supervision.
  • Support prototype builds, test setups, and validation activities; document findings for engineering review.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to troubleshoot design issues and evaluate improvement options.
  • Support design-for-manufacturability (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) discussions with Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Maintain technical documentation, specifications, and design records in PLM/ERP systems.
  • Interface with suppliers for basic inquiries, sample reviews, or drawing clarifications.
  • Follow engineering standards, safety guidelines, and quality procedures in all design activities.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance design efficiency, accuracy, and quality.
