About The Position

Purpose and Scope: Perform a wide range of mechanical design, development, analysis, and review tasks (to include layout, selection, and sizing for clean rooms, multiple-zone VAV systems, simple constant volume systems, distribution systems (pumps, pipe, control valves, ductwork, diffusers, and registers, air handlers (with coils and economizers), fan systems, central plant systems (boilers, chillers, cooling towers), chilled water systems, packaged HVAC units, fume hoods, and dust collection systems, fire suppression systems, and pressure vessel systems as Lead Design Engineer under the oversight of the Mechanical Design Engineering Supervisor. Job Duties and Essential Responsibilities: Interface and liaise with internal and external customers at all levels from quotation to final design including all design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications. Develop and maintain technical and specification documentation which comply with contract and government documentation standards and procedures. Prepare, review, and submit technical papers and engineering studies. Conduct site visits, field inspections, and investigations to analyze engineering problems and to propose solutions alternative methods, or recommendations for these problems. Coordinate effectively with various engineering disciplines, NASA customer, other NASA contractors, field technicians, project managers, CAD drafters, and program management through written and verbal communications. Adhere to project budgets, schedules, scope, and priorities while communicating project status to management, design team, and stakeholders. Provide technical support for ROM (Rough Order of Magnitude) estimates for projects, as well as risk assessments to support proper project prioritization. Contribute to the development, maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of various HVAC control systems (BAS, SCADA). Reference and utilize ASHRAE, ASME, NFPA, NASA and KSC codes, standards, and guidelines. Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • Florida PE license (HVAC, FP) (or obtain a FL PE license within six months of start date).
  • Fifteen (15) years of experience in the areas defined in this job posting.
  • Familiarity with industrial HVAC, PVS, Fire Suppression, and Plumbing.
  • Familiarity with Specs Intact, MicroStation, Acrobat, and AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with HASS, AFT Arrow, AFT Fathom, and AFT Impulse.
  • Ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and design cost-effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Ability and desire to expand knowledge of other controls and automation systems.
  • Excellent communications and analytical skills with a working knowledge of computer systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain required clearances/badges as required by program and position
  • Must have the ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written in an effective manner.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Three (3) years of Pressure Vessel System experience highly desired.
  • Three (3) years of Fire Protection experience highly desired.
