About The Position

Our client, a world leader in the semiconductor industry, is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer IV for a long-term contract position in Allentown, PA. This role involves supporting the design and development of complex electromechanical systems. The candidate will be responsible for creating detailed 3D models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation, while collaborating with cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams. The position requires hands-on experience in mechanical design, prototype development, system integration, and design transfer to manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of mechanical design experience using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Strong experience creating 3D CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings.
  • Experience designing electromechanical systems, enclosures, vacuum systems, gas delivery systems, or pneumatic assemblies.
  • Hands-on experience supporting prototype builds, testing, and manufacturing transfer.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, mechanical tolerancing, and engineering drawing standards.
  • Strong understanding of material selection and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Autodesk Vault for document management.
  • Experience with Enovia PLM.
  • Proficiency in Inventor Tube & Pipe, Cable & Harness, and Sheet Metal modules.
  • Familiarity with ASTM standards and engineering documentation practices.
  • Experience supporting new product development (NPI) and production release.
  • Knowledge of ERP/PLM workflows, BOM management, and engineering change processes.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop 3D mechanical models, component drawings, and assembly drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Create, revise, and maintain detailed engineering drawings in accordance with company and industry standards.
  • Design electrical enclosures, vacuum system components, gas delivery systems, pneumatic assemblies, and sheet metal components.
  • Utilize Autodesk Inventor Tube & Pipe, Cable & Harness, and Sheet Metal environments for product development.
  • Manage engineering documentation and revision control using Autodesk Vault and PLM systems.
  • Prepare and present design review documentation to engineering teams and stakeholders.
  • Support prototype builds by sourcing and procuring prototype components.
  • Perform system integration, prototype assembly, troubleshooting, validation, and functional testing.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to transfer designs into production and support product release activities.
  • Generate and maintain technical documentation, including assembly instructions, installation guides, service manuals, BOMs, and test procedures.
  • Apply GD&T principles and engineering standards to mechanical designs and manufacturing documentation.
  • Select appropriate materials and components to optimize product cost, manufacturability, reliability, and performance.
  • Work closely with Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Participate in design reviews, engineering change requests (ECR/ECO), and continuous product improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable ASTM standards, company design practices, and engineering specifications.
  • Support root cause analysis, failure investigations, and implementation of corrective actions for product improvements.
