About The Position

The Mechanical Design Engineer's primary task will be to generate documentation to facilitate construction of Doble Engineering Phenix Technologies line of products. With the use of CAD technology, designs are engineered to develop customer requirements and product specifications into manufactured equipment. Frequent communication and interaction with other engineers, technicians, production personnel, in-house sales staff and outside sales representatives, and customers is required. This role will be based in our Maryland office reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2-year technical degree in drafting or computer aided design.
  • 0 - 2 years of experience in a Mechanical Engineering product design role.
  • Experience using MS Office applications including WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT.
  • Fundamental mechanical knowledge, including forces, moments, pressure, and motion.
  • Candidates should exhibit problem solving skills combined with analytical thinking to arrive at appropriate solutions in a timely manner.
  • The ability to balance independent creativity with teamwork solutions to provide deliverables.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills required for participating in technical discussions and interacting with customers and vendors.
  • Internet research skills require searching for products, methods, and solutions via search engines and technical forums.
  • A high degree of accuracy, organization and attention to detail.
  • The ability to design standard dielectric testing products.
  • Must be capable of lifting 30 pounds. Must use assistance when lifting 50 or more pounds.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United Sates.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME).
  • Applicable experience will be considered in lieu of required education.
  • Advanced skills or training in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and MS Office applications.
  • Experience in the machining, fabrication, and assembly process of metal and plastic components.

Responsibilities

  • Review sales specifications and technical requirements, resolving any questions prior to beginning design work.
  • Design of transformer tanks, electrical equipment enclosures, mechanical drive systems, supporting structures for high voltage components, and other mechanical devices used in the manufacture of Phenix Technologies test equipment.
  • Perform calculations during the design process to verify that mechanical ratings of the equipment designed are met by the components selected.
  • Specify and order mechanical components with correct ratings to perform per design criteria.
  • Prepare the mechanical portion of design packages for the production department, which include CAD geometry, manufacturing details, bills of materials, packing slips, product specification tags, product manuals, test reports and other supporting documentation as necessary.
  • Ensure that any mechanical design changes made during production and testing are updated in the final design information.
  • Generate 3 dimensional virtual assemblies of products using SolidWorks to influence design choices and improve production techniques.
  • Create mechanical drawings using both AutoCAD and SolidWorks for use by either Phenix Technologies production department or outside vendor fabrication.
  • Use of MS Office programs such as Excel, Word and Power Point to assist with numerical calculations, generate test procedures and reports, write product manuals and prepare presentations.
  • Create mechanical component bill of materials using ERP/PLM software package.
  • Support Production, Test, and Service Department staff when necessary to solve problems encountered in the production or service of Phenix Technologies line of test equipment.
  • Creation of new test procedures when needed to verify and document proper operation and calibration of Phenix Technologies line of test equipment.
  • Understand and comply with applicable engineering procedures.
  • Put forth extra effort when required to meet design schedules on projects where delivery time is critical.
  • Travel on an occasional basis, both domestically and internationally, to support service, sales, and marketing efforts.
  • Perform duties in accordance with Doble Engineering company policies.
