About The Position

The Radar Mechanical Design Department leads mechanical design, development, and integration of innovative land-based and shipboard radars, including phased array radar systems, electronic modules, pedestals, and power and cooling systems. The department comprises individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration, and production support. The Radar Mechanical Design Department in the Hardware Engineering organization is searching for a Section Leader to join our team. As a Section Lead, you will ensure two-way communication for section members; serve as the day-to-day liaison to the programs concerning employee job assignments and growth, performance and recognition. Responsibilities also include coordinating program staffing needs and outlooks and optimizing resource utilization. The Section Lead will team with the Department Manager in the execution of Mechanical Engineering and Raytheon Engineering goals and design services and integrity across all program phases. This is an onsite position located in either our Marlborough or Tewksbury, MA locations.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience in hardware engineering design, development or production support of cooling equipment and systems.
  • Experience with leadership in frontline or project leader positions or performance development.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • Active and existing security clearance required after day 1.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degrees in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Math, or related science degree.
  • Strong interpersonal, technical writing, and presentation skills.
  • Familiarity with performance development processes and experience working in a matrix environment.
  • Proven ability to manage projects, lead teams, and foster collaboration.
  • Experience in technical and cost proposal development and a focus on process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Set clear and measurable goals while effectively communicating with the team.
  • Oversee the performance, career development, and staffing needs of approximately 15 team members.
  • Mentor the team with design, fabrication, testing, and installation guidance of custom liquid-cooled and air-cooled systems.
  • Performance development and appraisal, salary planning, manpower planning, career coaching, and ensuring adherence to company policies.
  • Contribute to the technical oversight of employees, monitor program execution, and provide technical expertise in direct support of program efforts and proposal activities.
  • Act as a liaison between team members and programs, ensuring alignment of assignments, recognition, and performance.
  • Dedicate approximately 10% of time to leadership duties, with the remaining time focused on technical contributions.
