Mechanical Co-Op - University of Minnesota (Summer-Fall 2027)
About The Position
HGA is a national multidisciplinary design firm rooted in architecture and engineering, specializing in the design of healthcare facilities, corporate headquarters, labs, museums, higher education buildings, and central heating and cooling plants. This paid co-op/internship opportunity is for a University of Minnesota student, expected to last at least a semester beginning March 2027 and June 2027, with flexibility in timing. Requirements
- Currently enrolled as a sophomore or junior at the University of Minnesota.
- Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and having completed at least two years of coursework.
- Able to commute to and work from the office.
- GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Demonstrated communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative team environment.
Nice To Haves
- Previous experience through internships or co-op assignments in the design or construction industry is preferred.
- Working knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD is highly desirable and would enable immediate contribution to project work.
Responsibilities
- Learn to use software to analyze the heating and cooling loads in buildings.
- Be trained to model mechanical systems in Revit – the 3D drafting tool used in the construction industry.
- Involve in various mechanical design tasks such as analyzing stresses in steam distribution piping, calculating the outside air required in a health care facility, or modeling distribution ductwork and piping in an office complex.
