About The Position

The Mechanical / Chamber Lab Support Technician will be responsible for a comprehensive range of mechanical and environmental validation procedures, extending from component-level robustness evaluations to complex, system-level reliability qualification, particularly for products within specialized sectors such as aerospace and regulated industries.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is mandatory for report writing and data/schedule management.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills for report authoring and collaboration.
  • Strong analytical, report writing, and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Strong upper body strength is necessary.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and torque down test samples and fixtures up to 25 lbs on an ongoing repetitive manner is critical.
  • Extended periods of sitting, standing, and sustained visual concentration are required.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and procedures is mandatory.
  • A college diploma in a field related to mechanical testing, or equivalent work experience.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours as per customer needs.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.
  • Must meet all other requirements under Canada's Controlled Goods Program (CGP).

Responsibilities

  • Operation of various Electro-Dynamic vibration shakers and Mechanical Drop Shock equipment to execute both routine and extreme operational/non-operational profiles.
  • Execution of testing using Environmental Thermal Chambers, including routine thermal cycles and high-intensity, fast-ramping Non-Op / Op Thermal Cycles. Includes HALT and Static Loading testing support to identify failure points.
  • Performing / supporting testing against specific regulatory standards such as DO-160 (Water Proof Spray) and ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) testing.
  • Daily operation, maintenance, calibration, and housekeeping of all lab equipment (Shakers, Accelerometers, Strain Gauges, Thermal Chambers, slip plates, head expanders).
  • Support installation of new equipment and software.
  • Support product qualifications, design verification, and overall quality & reliability testing.
  • Electrical debugging of printed circuit assemblies as needed.
  • Writing detailed, professional test reports and maintaining accurate test logs.
  • Managing and tracking progress against complex test plans, such as the System Waterfall schedule.
