About The Position

We are seeking a Mechanical CAD Designer to join our Precision Strike & Sensing Solutions Hardware Engineering organization in Huntsville, AL. This role involves developing first-of-its-kind technologies and equipment to protect warfighters. You will support engineering activities across the product lifecycle, including design & development, transition to production, test equipment design, and production sustainment for complex electronics, electro-mechanical, and optomechanical designs. You will work within dynamic engineering development teams, collaborating with colleagues and experts nationwide to deliver advanced products. Successful candidates will possess strong technical aptitude, communication skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally. You will exercise discretion and independent judgment based on mechanical engineering principles and practical design & development experience. The role focuses on designing hardware solutions for challenging customer requirements, considering affordability, manufacturing, quality, and reliability. Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance
  • Associate’s degree in mechanical CAD design, or related field, and a minimum of 5 years’ related work experience or equivalent experience
  • Electro-Mechanical Packaging experience
  • Proficient using PTC Creo Parametric 7 or higher and Windchill 11.0 or higher
  • Strong understanding of GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5
  • Comprehension of Military Standards and ASME Standards
  • US citizenship status

  • Previous EO/IR Experience
  • Experience in RF/Electronic Warfare Products

Responsibilities

  • Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) equipment and/or graphic tools to design and generate deliverable product definition for components, systems, portion of systems and to modify existing designs to develop or improve production.
  • Utilize PTC Creo Parametric 7.0 or higher and Windchill 11.0 or higher, after training if needed
  • Support mechanical, electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical hardware design efforts from conceptual layouts through detailed design release
  • Conduct design trade studies, volume packaging and light tolerance analysis
  • Plan, execute, develop, release and control of product definition data (engineering models and drawings)
  • Partner with business team members and engineering teams to develop mutually agreeable design specifications and ensure they are met on final product
  • Partner with technicians in the generation and assembly of prototype/engineering hardware and test equipment
  • Create, maintain and update engineering records and files as appropriate
  • Execute comprehensive design process including conceptual development, physical design, support to procurement and manufacturing
  • Utilize standard manufacturing practices for the efficient fabrication of mechanical components and opto/electro/mechanical assemblies
  • Effectively perform in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
  • Perform Drawing and Model Change Orders (ECO, ECR, ECN, etc.)
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
