Position Summary Provide general assistance in various craft skills required to construct, repair, and maintain plant equipment, utilities, buildings and related structures and train on various equipment and systems in plant. Employs training and experience in the various craft skills required to complete simple assignments and to assist in the performance of more highly skilled tasks. Sets up, adjusts, operates, and maintains shop tools (drill press and grinder). Occasionally operates electrode welder and oxygen and acetylene cutting and welding apparatus. Operates and maintains portable power tools and standard hand tools. Occasionally operates fork trucks. Continuously trains to a high level of proficiency.

Requirements

  • Routinely uses testing devices and standard hand tools.
  • Employee works directly under the supervision of a MECHANICAL SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN C or higher.
  • Occasionally operates electrode welder, acetylene torch, portable power tools, shop equipment, forklift, and other mobile equipment.
  • Must successfully pass the company’s forklift, aerial work platform, and mobile crane operator’s test.
  • Will be required to fill in as needed to fill vacancies on shift and may be required to rotate on shift.
  • Must be able to work overtime as required.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • good mechanical aptitude
  • ability to work with others as a team
  • completion of industrial maintenance training required.

Responsibilities

  • Helps maintain and repair mechanical equipment throughout the plant
  • Assists with PM (preventative maintenance) to plant mechanical equipment as specified
  • Maintains daily work logs
  • Manufactures simple parts or equipment as directed by MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR
  • Replaces guards, floor grates, etc., and removes all tools, parts, rags, etc. upon completion of assignment
  • Follows checkout procedure when removing items from the storeroom.
  • Demonstrates a familiarity of regulatory and company safety issues and safe working habits.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
