About The Position

As a Mechanical Assembler III at Collins Aerospace, you will support the production of high precision mechanical systems used in advanced aerospace and defense applications. This role is designed for an experienced assembler who can take ownership of complex builds, interpret detailed engineering documentation, and help ensure assemblies meet quality, safety, and performance expectations before they reach the customer. In this position, you will assemble mechanical systems and subassemblies, perform precision alignments, apply torque requirements, conduct functional checks, and troubleshoot issues that arise during the build process. You will also maintain accurate documentation, operate specialized tools and fixtures, and collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams when technical questions or process improvements arise. As a senior member of the assembly team, you will help mentor less experienced assemblers by sharing best practices, reinforcing safety expectations, and supporting consistent, high quality workmanship across the team.

Requirements

  • Typically requires HS diploma (or equivalent, e.g. G.E.D in the US) or vocational/technical education in related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, blueprints, and schematics
  • Previous experience using precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators)

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of mechanical assembly experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead role
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently on complex builds
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or high-tech manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with ERP systems for work order tracking and documentation

Responsibilities

  • Assemble complex mechanical systems and subassemblies from engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions
  • Perform precision alignments, torque applications, and functional testing to ensure assemblies meet specifications
  • Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues during the build process, collaborating with engineering when needed
  • Maintain accurate build records, inspection reports, and documentation for quality control
  • Train and mentor junior assemblers, sharing best practices and safety protocols
  • Operate and maintain assembly tools, fixtures, and specialized equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and stand for extended periods
