DNV is seeking practical Gas or Mechanical Technicians to join the Major Hazards Research and Development team at its Spadeadam R&D Centre. The role involves hands-on work at a major hazards research facility, helping develop and operate experimental facilities and produce evidence that supports safety and engineering decisions across energy, industry and critical infrastructure. The work spans the project lifecycle, from concept development and design through construction, commissioning, testing and operation. Projects may cover hydrogen and alternative fuel safety, high-pressure gas releases, fire and explosion research, pipeline safety and integrity, infrastructure resilience, hazardous-area investigations, battery energy storage, industrial process safety and emerging energy technologies. The technician will also contribute to maintaining and enhancing essential site infrastructure and working with mechanical and gas assets, including pipeline and pressure systems. The role is predominantly site-based at Spadeadam in Cumbria. Occasional flexibility may be possible depending on project requirements, but applicants should expect to work on site for most of their time. The site is not accessible by public transport, so a full UK driving licence is required. UK Security Clearance may also be required; DNV will assist with the application. Background checks will be conducted on final candidates.
