About The Position

Southern Tire Mart is seeking a skilled Mechanic to diagnose and repair mechanical systems on semi-trucks and trailers. This role involves performing preventative maintenance, conducting fleet inspections, and utilizing diagnostic tools to troubleshoot issues. The mechanic will also be responsible for tire services, maintaining records, adhering to safety regulations, and potentially responding to roadside service calls. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (trade school certification a plus).
  • Prior experience as a diesel mechanic, fleet technician, or heavy truck mechanic preferred.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge and problem-solving ability.
  • Must be able to lift/move tires and equipment (30–250 lbs., with or without mechanical aids).
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening.
  • Willingness to work in varying conditions (weather, noise, physical demands).
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Overtime may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair mechanical systems on semi-trucks and trailers, including brakes, steering & suspension, HVAC systems, drivetrains, and electrical systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance (PM) inspections and conduct fleet inspections.
  • Operate diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot issues accurately.
  • Perform tire-related services including mounting, balancing, and repairing.
  • Use and maintain Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS).
  • Maintain detailed records of work performed.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines, company policies, and DOT regulations.
  • Respond to roadside service calls using a company service truck (F-350), when required.
  • Assist with parts inventory and shop organization.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
