SOAR365 is seeking a skilled and dependable Mechanic to support operations at the Defense Supply Center Richmond. In this hands-on role, you will maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of commercial lawn care, janitorial, and agency equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least two years of experience operating, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining commercial lawn equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Working knowledge of engines, tools, and equipment repair methods.
  • Experience using hand, electric, and pneumatic tools.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve equipment malfunctions.
  • Capability to safely operate small gas- and electric-powered equipment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Valid Virginia driver's license with an insurable driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, climbing, pushing, and pulling in both indoor and outdoor environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on gasoline- and diesel-powered equipment, including commercial lawn mowers, string trimmers, backpack blowers, and related machinery.
  • Diagnose mechanical issues, disassemble engines, inspect components, and repair or replace parts such as bearings, valves, pistons, pumps, and crankshafts.
  • Test equipment performance.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Manage spare parts inventory.
  • Repair janitorial equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on agency vehicles.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Support SOAR365's mission and values.
  • Work effectively with employees, volunteers, and interns to foster a positive and productive workplace.
