This role is responsible for diagnosing, adjusting, repairing, or overhauling mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment. The Mechanic will identify and repair any malfunctioning vehicles, CMVs, equipment, or plant, ensuring their ability to be safely relocated or operated as needed. This involves performing skilled repair and maintenance operations using various tools and equipment, diagnosing faults, examining parts, and performing routine maintenance. The position also includes recording maintenance information, conducting road calls, and adhering to company policies and safety protocols.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent
Valid State-Issued Driver’s License, Class A or B, preferred
Standard mechanical tools to work on any vehicle, CMV, or equipment, required
Candidates must be willing and able to undergo a pre-employment background check, MVR overview, physical/DOT and drug/alcohol testing. Ongoing compliance is required.
Proficiently read, write, and speak English.
Ability to understand and read GPS from company issued tablet.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with internal and external stakeholders, including: Management, supervisors, and peers
People at various social levels
Demonstrate the ability to perform job functions in accordance with Company policies and management directives, including adherence to personal appearance standards, safety protocols, and P.P.E. requirements, while promptly reporting any unsafe conditions, accidents, or incidents to the plant manager.
Must be able to take orders, instructions and guidance from management and supervisors
Proficient basic math skills, e.g. addition, subtraction, fractions, and percentages
Required to have an active phone with texting or email capabilities to ensure reliable communication during work hours (Note: Usage must comply with the Ernst Cell Phone Policy, Federal, & State regulations and may not interfere with safe operation of company vehicles).
Proven safe driving record
No unexplained gaps in employment

The employee must also be willing and able to work long hours up to the maximum hours allowed of services permitted by DOT and state law, including but not limited to, Saturday, Sunday, and holidays.
Maintain driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations and company policy.

Responsibilities

Diagnose, adjust, repair or overhaul mobile mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
Identify and repair any malfunctioning vehicles, CMVs, equipment, or plant and ensuring the ability to safely relocate or operate them as needed.
Perform skilled repair and maintenance operations using equipment such as hand and power tools, hydraulic presses and shears, and welding equipment.
Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
Examine parts for damage or excessive wear.
Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
Inspect, test and measure completed work using devices such as hand tools and gauges to verify conformance to standards and repair requirements.
Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
Assemble gear systems and align frames and gears.
Install and adjust bearings to maintain, repair, or overhaul mobile equipment with mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic systems.
Weld or solder broken parts and structural members using electric or gas welders and soldering tools.
Clean parts by spraying them with grease solvent or immersing them in tanks of solvent.
Record maintenance and repair information in company’s fleet maintenance software.
Conduct road calls as needed for equipment, vehicles, or CMV’s.
