About The Position

Safely perform all aspects of rolling stock and dragline maintenance mechanical repairs to mining equipment. This role involves performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and diagnosing heavy equipment malfunctions, repairing and rebuilding components, and utilizing work orders for parts and cost records. The position requires adherence to MSHA law and regulations, company safety procedures, and environmental regulations. Additional duties include operating equipment for diagnostics and testing, maintaining a safe and clean shop area, and performing other assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of diesel engines, cooling systems, undercarriage, electrical systems, hydraulic components, drive trains, brake and air conditioning systems.
  • Knowledge of welding, cutting, air arcing, grinding, and understanding metal properties.
  • Ability to read, understand and use electronic diagnostic tools, prints, and manuals.
  • Knowledge of mechanical maintenance such as engine transmission, drive train, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical and air conditioning systems.
  • Skill in diagnosing malfunctions.
  • Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work shift work.
  • Eagerness to accept responsibility and challenges.
  • Frequent hand coordination to operate machines.
  • Frequent hand coordination to manipulate equipment and tools.
  • Occasional lift up to 35 lb wheel chocks, from ground to 48" and carry up to 30'.
  • Occasional lift from floor to 75" shelves up to 35 lb sledge hammer, chain come along, shackles and tools, carry up to 150'.
  • Occasional lift up to 50 lb chains from ground to 64'.
  • Occasional push 20 lbs while sitting with both feet to operate pedals on lights trucks.
  • Occasional push up to 55 lbs with both feet to operate foot controls.
  • Occasional push/pull up to 60 lbs with both hands on wrenches and tools.
  • Occasional push/pull up to 70 lbs toolbox, tow rope at preferred height up to 20'.
  • Occasional grip up to 20 lbs with both hands to operate steering wheel.
  • Occasional grip up to 60 lbs with preferred hand to grip tools and equipment.
  • Occasional sit up to 4 hours operating machines.
  • Occasional walk up to 200' around equipment looking for pre-operation inspection.
  • Occasional stand/walk up to 50' on uneven or muddy ground from truck to machine.
  • Occasional bend, squat or kneel to ground level and reach overhead with both arms for maintenance or repairs.
  • Occasional crawl up to 20' on ground for maintenance and repairs.
  • Occasional maintain sustained elevated position with both hands for repairs.
  • Occasional reach up to 72" grab bar and climb up to 30" initial suspended step then up to 5, 12" to 16" steps/rungs to access machines.
  • Occasional climb up to 33 steps to top of wash bay.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma/GED with vocational training or equivalent experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance such as changing oil, greasing and replacing components on a scheduled basis.
  • Troubleshoot/diagnose heavy equipment malfunctions and replace parts, repair and rebuild as necessary.
  • Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools.
  • Read blueprints and follow service manuals and parts lists in setting up and performing repairs and rebuilds.
  • Utilize work orders and requisitions for ordering parts and maintenance of equipment cost records.
  • Advise when immediate shut-down of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when continued operation will have no harmful effect.
  • Perform job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures and state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Operate the equipment to diagnose problems and test operate after repair.
  • Operate light vehicles to travel throughout the mine site.
  • Maintain shop area in a safe and clean manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
