About The Position

Murray County is accepting applications for a regular full-time Mechanic in its Highway Department. The position performs semi-skilled and skilled mechanical work on highway maintenance vehicles and related equipment, and performs Maintenance Worker duties as assigned. The salary is $26.13 to $33.97 per hour. The position is open until filled; the first review of applications is October 27, 2026.

Requirements

• Associate degree in heavy equipment and truck maintenance or a related field, plus two years of progressive qualified work experience in a similar field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential job functions.
• Maintain certification as a Minnesota commercial vehicle inspector.
• Possess a valid Minnesota Commercial Class A driver's license at the time of application and maintain it throughout employment.
• Possess or obtain air brake and tanker endorsements within six months of employment and maintain the required license throughout employment.
• Obtain and maintain other endorsements as deemed necessary.
• Obtain and maintain Air and Hydraulic Brake, Air Conditioning, Forklift, and Crane certifications within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and troubleshoot problems on light, heavy, and specialized highway maintenance equipment.
• Perform mechanical and electrical repairs, replacements, and modifications on light, heavy, and specialized highway maintenance equipment.
• Fabricate metal parts for repairs and to outfit equipment for the Highway Department.
• Perform annual Minnesota certified commercial vehicle inspections.
• Maintain grounds through mowing, trimming, and snow removal.
• Load culverts, signs, posts, and materials sold to other entities.
• Perform Maintenance Worker duties as assigned.
