About The Position

This role involves providing maintenance for the MEI fleet, which includes forklifts (ranging from 6k lb. to Versa Lift 60/80k), Peterbilt and Western Star tractors, and Landoll/KS RGN flatbed trailers. The mechanic will perform mid-level work on diesel vehicles, including routine PM service, brake service, and hydraulic systems. Responsibilities include diagnosing vehicle conditions through inspections and diagnostic tests, identifying worn or damaged parts, and maintaining equipment availability by completing preventive maintenance schedules. The role also involves verifying vehicle performance, maintaining repair records, managing shop equipment, controlling costs through warranty and parts options, and maintaining inventory. The position requires a strong focus on safety, teamwork, honesty, integrity, professionalism, and open communication to ensure high-quality service.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum four (4) years proven fleet mechanic experience (Heavy Equipment and Vehicles)
  • Must be able to obtain DOT medical card upon hire

Nice To Haves

  • Construction industry experience
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools and equipment, hand, power, and pneumatic tools.
  • Fork truck experience (electric and propane)

Responsibilities

  • Perform mid-level mechanic work on diesel vehicles, including routine PM service, brake service, and hydraulic systems.
  • Conduct inspections and diagnostic tests to determine vehicle condition and identify worn and damaged parts.
  • Keep equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing component and part upgrades, controlling corrosion, and completing winterization procedures.
  • Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems.
  • Maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repairs.
  • Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for extensive repairs when needed.
  • Contain costs by utilizing warranty and evaluating service and parts options.
  • Maintain inventory by stocking supplies, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
  • Enhance maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for new requests and exploring opportunities to add value.
  • Complete housekeeping duties in assigned area or project area daily and/or when needed.
