This position involves receiving training to become proficient in automotive and/or equipment maintenance and repair. The trainee will assist higher-level mechanics in the repair and replacement of major parts on cars, trucks, and agency-identified equipment. Additionally, the trainee will perform routine service and maintenance tasks such as checking fluid levels and batteries, lubricating joints, hinges, and latches, changing oil and replacing filters, replacing spark plugs, performing tire changes, servicing the cooling system, and dispensing fuel or fluids as needed, along with repairing and replacing minor worn-out parts.
