About The Position

Data-Mail is a family-owned company established in 1971 in Newington, CT, specializing in personalization and direct mail services for various industries. As one of the largest employers in the Hartford, CT metropolitan region with over 800 employees across two facilities and multiple shifts, we support major companies and advertising agencies nationwide. This position is responsible for machine setups, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of all production equipment, with a focus on continuous improvement of the preventive maintenance process. The Mechanic will have a primary home department, either Bindery or Inserting. Trade school students, graduates, technicians, and mechanics are strongly encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Trade school plus 1-2 years experience in machine repair or equivalent.
  • Ability to use basic hand and power tools (Standard and metric wrenches and sockets, screwdrivers, electric meters and testers, saws, drills, electric sander/grinder, machine shop tools).
  • Experienced with standard and advanced tools.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to comprehend parts/operator manuals.
  • Good Communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Require technical expertise to effectively read, follow and comprehend technical manuals to run and adjust machines.
  • Reliably commute to our Windsor, CT facility.
  • Available to work 1st shift (6:00am to 6:00pm - two week rotating schedule) or 2nd shift (6:00pm to 6:00am - two week rotating schedule).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safe work environment and follow all company safety protocols.
  • Perform simple setups on machines in a timely manner (Bindery: Ehret lines; Inserting: MSD and Epic lines).
  • Read job recaps thoroughly and check jobs for accuracy, reporting any error or discrepancy to the supervisor immediately.
  • Clean machines prior to setups and inspect them as a preventive maintenance measure.
  • Maintain production standards and report any production, quality, or safety problems to the supervisor immediately.
  • Perform daily/weekly/monthly preventive maintenance on machines as necessary and contribute to PM planning.
  • Perform minor electrical testing, such as changing fuses and fixing broken wires.
  • Perform small parts replacement and some repairs as needed (Bindery: Glue head nozzles, slitter blades, etc.; Inserting: feed rolls/belts, water nozzles, etc.).
  • Respond to machine problems throughout the shift, diagnose issues, and perform minor repairs and adjustments quickly to avoid production delays.
  • Utilize MicroMain system for all repairs/parts, follow crib procedures, find parts, and complete paperwork for accurate parts inventory.
  • Move to other areas or perform other duties as directed by supervision.
  • Comply with company rules and regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company-sensitive data.
  • Implement a commitment to quality philosophy and recommend methods and procedures to reduce cost and/or improve operating efficiency.
  • Keep manager/supervisor informed of activities and situations that will affect the achievement of corporate or department goals and objectives.
  • Perform other related duties as required to achieve the goals and objectives of the department and company.
