About The Position

The purpose of this position is to diagnose and perform preventative maintenance and corrective repairs on gas and diesel vehicles and equipment while supervising the daily operation of the shop. The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing gas and diesel vehicles and equipment while overseeing the daily operations of the maintenance shop. This position combines hands-on mechanical work with supervisory responsibilities, ensuring efficient shop operations, staff performance, and equipment reliability.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of gas and diesel engine repair
  • Experience with heavy equipment and fleet maintenance
  • Proficiency in mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic work
  • Ability to operate shop equipment and tools safely

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Welding and fabrication experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, direct, and evaluate shop personnel
  • Address employee concerns, performance issues, and workplace challenges
  • Assist in recruitment, interviewing, and selection of shop employees
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement shop goals, workflows, and processes
  • Provide guidance and technical direction to staff
  • Recommend and procure equipment, tools, and supplies; work with vendors on pricing
  • Order, stock, and manage inventory of parts and materials
  • Ensure efficient daily shop operations and workflow
  • Maintain records and reports related to maintenance and repairs
  • Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on a wide range of equipment
  • Diagnose and repair gas and diesel vehicles including: Cars, trucks, tractors, mowers, and heavy construction equipment
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems
  • Maintain and repair engines, motors, generators, and related equipment
  • Dismantle, repair, and reassemble electric motors
  • Rewire electrical panels and replace defective components
  • Test machinery and equipment to ensure proper operation
  • Coordinate external repairs when necessary
  • Perform welding and fabrication tasks as needed
  • Cut and shape metal using plasma cutters, torches, grinders, and saws
  • Operate various equipment and tools, including: Forklifts, cranes, compressors, generators, Diagnostic tools, welders, and mechanical/electrical equipment
  • Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment
  • Perform general building maintenance for City facilities as needed
  • Participate in safety meetings and enforce safety protocols
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment
