About The Position

As a member of the Planning & Public Works department, Operations Division, under the direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor – Fleet, and under the general guidance of the Mechanics, assists Mechanics in servicing, adjusting, performing minor repair and preventative maintenance of County vehicles and equipment. Operates vehicles, equipment and tools necessary to maintain County roads and bridges, and operates a snow plow in the winter as required.

Requirements

Grade 12 education or equivalent
1 – 2 years of broad experience and aptitude for mechanical maintenance and repairs, ideally in a municipal environment
Knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act, Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspections and Hours of Service
Knowledge of safe work practices in a mechanic shop and roadside environment
Currently possess a valid Ontario G driver’s license
Will successfully obtain a class DZ driver’s license within the first 90 days of employment
A recent driver’s abstract
Basic computer skills with the ability to navigate standard software, internet, etc.
Must have CSA approved safety footwear
Provide a Criminal Record Check that is acceptable to the County as a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

Formal education or training in mechanical maintenance and repairs or a willingness to attain
Automotive Service Technician (310S)
Snow plow operator training
Welding experience – certificate
Wheel Installer certificate or willingness to attain
Forklift experience – certificate
Crane operations experience – certificate
