About The Position

This role is for an individual looking to start a career as an auto or heavy equipment mechanic. The position involves performing routine maintenance on a variety of passenger and commercial trucks, as well as serving as the primary driver for picking up and dropping off parts throughout the greater Bay Area for a large fleet of vehicles and machines. The company is seeking a candidate with a long-term career goal of becoming a full-time mechanic within the company.

Requirements

Clean driving history with no moving violations, accidents, or points for the past five years.
Current California Driver’s License (Class C).
Minimum of seven years of driving experience.
Mechanically inclined with an interest in cars, trucks, and heavy equipment.
One or more years of hands-on experience, or a combination of high school/trade school training and hands-on experience, or several years of experience working on personal or family/friends' vehicles.
Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
High school diploma or G.E.D.
Physically able to lift at least 30 pounds regularly.
Ability to climb under and onto large vehicles and equipment.
Career goal to become a full-time mechanic.
Must live within a 40-minute commute of Richmond, CA.
All work experience since high school or GED must be listed on the resume.
The town of residence must be on the resume.

Responsibilities

Serve as the primary parts driver, operating a company vehicle to pick up and deliver parts, special orders, and other necessary items for the Fleet team throughout the greater Bay Area.
Deliver and pick up vehicles that require servicing.
Perform preventative maintenance, diagnoses, and repairs on autos, light trucks, large trucks, and various equipment related to the tree care industry.
Check and change vehicle fluids, filters, windshield wipers, and other parts as needed. Check tire pressure and change brake pads, rotors, sensors, etc.
Perform standard inspections and tests.
Update the Tatem’s database online to meet compliance and regulations standards, and enter inventory.
Clean and organize work areas when not driving or working on mechanical projects.
Utilize hand tools and diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot mechanical issues once trained.
Undertake other projects as time allows.
