About The Position

Smithfield is seeking a Mechanic Lead for its 3rd Shift operations. This role is crucial in ensuring the smooth functioning of maintenance operations, supporting the Maintenance Supervisor in daily tasks, and providing on-the-job training to team members. The Mechanic Lead will be a key point of contact on the floor, collaborating with other departments and contributing to problem-solving and equipment maintenance. Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to take and pass MCCU designated courses.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing software; spreadsheet software and word processing software.
  • Ability to work RTE and Raw side.
  • Ability to communicate with others by speaking, reading, and writing English.

Responsibilities

  • Act in concert with the Maintenance Supervisor to ensure PMs are completed and downtime events are responded to appropriately.
  • Provide "on the job" training (OJT) to team members.
  • Ensure the downtime escalation protocol is executed appropriately.
  • Conduct rounds multiple times per shift to ensure all work is logged in SAP.
  • Provide specific hands-on training per the Supervisor’s training plan.
  • Serve as the maintenance point of contact on the floor with personnel from other departments.
  • Assist supervisor with conducting root cause problem solving and equipment risk assessments.
  • Act in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
  • Work flexible hours as needed.
  • Comply with all personnel, safety, food safety and company policies and procedures, including production standards.
  • Relieve on both sides of the facility to ensure technicians receive a day off each week.
