About The Position

Under the general direction of the Water Pollution Authority Administration or designee, this role assists in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of various types of mechanical equipment and processing units. Responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining sewer lines, performing custodial tasks at various facilities and pumping stations, and other related duties as directed.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school (or possession of a high school equivalency certificate)
  • Two (2) years of experience in mechanical maintenance.
  • Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials of the mechanical trade used in building and mechanical maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and the safety precautions of the mechanical trade.
  • Ability to perform maintenance and repair work on a wide variety of mechanical equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain records and produce simple reports.
  • Ability to act competently in emergencies.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and outside contractors as required.
  • At time of appointment, possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Within six (6) months of appointment, possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from a mechanic vocational school may substitute for one year of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the maintenance and repair of various types of mechanical equipment, including pumps, cranes, blowers, compressors and other equipment located in the wastewater treatment plant and pumping stations.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment, including cranes, aerators, clarifiers, thickeners, and pumps and pumping equipment, compressors and other process equipment in the wastewater treatment plant and pumping stations.
  • Assists with inspecting, cleaning and maintaining sewer lines and operating sewer maintenance equipment, including TV inspections equipment, flushing and vacuum units.
  • Performs various building and grounds maintenance tasks such as cleaning, painting, grass cutting, etc.
  • Completes written records of work performed.
