About The Position

This role requires a positive outlook and high energy level for a very fast-paced, stressful working environment. In addition to being resourceful and having excellent interpersonal skills, the candidate must be team-oriented. Strong leadership abilities with the skill set to exercise independent judgment with respect to real or potential problems are essential. The position requires a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and proficiency in both written and oral communication. The Mechanic III performs skilled work to maintain heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems for all facilities and trains less experienced HVAC mechanics on departmental standards.

Requirements

  • Must be able to work in extreme temperatures, hot and cold.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to read blueprints.
  • Must be able to use a computer, MS Office.
  • Must be able to maintain HVAC equipment up to 200 tons.
  • General mechanical knowledge of pumps, piping, valves, etc.
  • Must be able to learn Building Automation controls and programming.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of college, a plus/preferred.
  • Trade school with HVAC preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Make critical decisions on repair priorities based on work assignments.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair existing heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems, compressed air, and vacuum systems.
  • Inspect and maintain fire protection systems and equipment.
  • Perform critical duties during plant emergency situations.
  • Use and maintain building systems control software (Andover Controls).
  • Design and fabricate parts for related tasks.
  • Work alone and/or in a team environment.
  • Adhere to all plant safety procedures and practices, particularly as they relate to boilers and pressure piping.
  • Train new employees on ELC practices and procedures within the department.
  • Approach problem-solving in a detailed manner as it pertains to critical equipment, utilities, or systems on a daily basis.
  • Participate in preventive maintenance programs and procedures for the plant.
  • Advise management on current inventory status and the need for requisitioning parts and supplies.
  • Travel to multiple buildings within the campus.
  • Assist management in evaluating new installations and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and required.
