About The Position

This is highly skilled mechanical work at the level of the most advanced journeyman. Work involves the repair and maintenance of automobiles, trucks, light and heavy construction equipment and any other type of motor driven and/or mechanical equipment. Rebuilds automobiles, trucks, snow plows, hoists, spreaders, scrapers, cranes, sprayers, tractors, bulldozers, backhoes, payloaders, compactors, shovels, graders and any other mechanical or motorized equipment. Re-lines and adjusts brakes; refaces, reseats and grinds valves; installs and adjusts main and connecting rod bearings; installs special accessories and other miscellaneous equipment; sets up, adjusts, operates and maintains all types of electrical, mechanical and hydraulic testing equipment; makes all types of tests, evaluates results and takes or recommends repair and/or replacement procedures. Performs any type of repair replacement or reconditioning on motors, suspensions, mechanics, electrical systems, hydraulics, bodies, including, but not limited to, body work, painting, etc. Maintains all paper work as required. Performs related work as required, including that of lower grade mechanics.

Requirements

  • A thorough knowledge of all aspects of repair and maintenance of automotive and mechanical equipment and the tools, equipment etc. required to perform these tasks.
  • A good knowledge of the record keeping requirements.
  • The skill and ability to apply the above and related knowledge including, but not limited to, physical strength.
  • Not less than six (6) years employment in the repair and maintenance of mechanical or motorized equipment.
  • A minimum of two (2) years experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy construction equipment.
  • Technical or trade school training may be substituted for employment (up to three (3) years) OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
