About The Position

This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all vehicles assigned to departments and division of the City. Responsible for performing scheduled preventive maintenance and necessary repairs, vehicle modifications, maintenance documentation, and parts inventories. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed, develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.

Requirements

  • Requires a High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of three (3) years of related experience in performing routine maintenance and minor repair work on automobile, heavy truck, small engine maintenance and repairs.
  • Must have experience with diagnostics scanning tools or a closely related field.
  • Ability to use computer for emailing, filling out work orders and service reports, and willingness to learn new software.
  • Requires a valid State of Florida Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment.
  • Must obtain a valid State of Florida Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License within six (6) months of hire date.
  • Must obtain a minimum of two (2) Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications in automotive or heavy equipment fields within two (2) years of hire date.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects vehicles and equipment and performs preventive maintenance.
  • Inspects, sets-up, and otherwise prepares new vehicles and equipment to be placed in service.
  • Performs routine minor maintenance such as tire change, timing, adjusting, and lubricating.
  • Performs major repairs such as engine overhaul or transmission repair or replacement.
  • May perform vehicle modification such as installing or removing special equipment, or other modifications.
  • May perform State safety inspections as required.
  • May train or advise less experienced personnel.
  • Performs shop or area maintenance such as general clean up.
  • Prepares documentation for maintenance activities such as repairs, parts used, cost, and other information.
  • Provides advice and assistance to vehicle or equipment operators as necessary.
