About The Position

This position performs thorough and accurate preventative maintenance inspections, completes required maintenance operations, and performs complex repairs on engines, electrical systems, fuel systems, brakes, and exhaust systems. The role also involves diagnosing mechanical defects, documenting repairs, and maintaining tools and workspaces. Emergency conditions may require on-call service, extended hours, or weekend work. The mechanic may also be required to drive vehicles for road tests, assist with bus cleanliness, and attend field trips for passenger safety.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years’ experience (B level) as a diesel mechanic or mechanic.
  • Accreditation from a school or certification program.
  • Complete all training requirements.
  • Pass pre-employment background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough, accurate preventative maintenance inspections.
  • Complete all required maintenance operations including lubrication, fluid changes, brake adjustments, and tire rotation.
  • Perform unscheduled maintenance as needed, with direction from the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Perform complex operations including engine, electrical, fuel, brake, and exhaust repairs and field tests.
  • Interpret and work from drawings, specifications, and other technical materials.
  • Perform emergency roadside services as needed.
  • Inspect equipment and diagnose mechanical defects.
  • Document repairs and parts on work orders completely and accurately.
  • Maintain tools and workplaces so that conditions are neat and orderly.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Be flexible for on-call service calls, extended hours, or weekend work during emergency conditions.
  • On occasion, drive vans, buses, and vehicles to perform road tests etc.
  • Assist with maintaining cleanliness of assigned bus.
  • Occasionally attend field trips and special events to ensure passenger safety.
