About The Position

John Knox Village is seeking a skilled and dependable Mechanic II to join our Maintenance Department. This full‑time role is ideal for someone with strong technical abilities, hands‑on experience, and a commitment to maintaining a safe, high‑quality environment for our residents and staff. As a Mechanic II, you will complete maintenance repair work orders in accordance with applicable building codes and departmental standards. Working under the direction of the Maintenance Manager or their delegate, you will support the upkeep, safety, and functionality of our 70‑acre Life Plan Community. This role requires technical expertise, problem‑solving skills, and a strong commitment to teamwork and safety.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs, climb ladders, squat, and stand for up to 8 hours
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat indoors and outdoors
  • 20/20 vision with corrective lenses
  • Valid Florida driver's license
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools
  • Ability to communicate, read, and write effectively in English
  • Ability to handle difficult situations professionally
  • This position is subject to Level 2 background screening in accordance with Florida law.

Responsibilities

  • Complete maintenance repair work orders to code and departmental standards
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas daily
  • Maintain all equipment and tools provided by John Knox Village
  • Secure and lock work areas to ensure safety of residents, visitors, and staff
  • Assist with supply orders and communicate material needs to the manager
  • Communicate with trades and subcontractors as needed and directed
  • Perform basic carpentry (door/window repair, picture/mirror hanging, etc.)
  • Perform basic plumbing repairs (faucets, commodes, water heaters, etc.)
  • Perform basic electrical work (wiring, fixture replacement, etc.)
  • Conduct building inspections as required
  • Move furniture and appliances
  • Operate motorized equipment after proper training
  • Remain on property during emergencies (e.g., hurricanes)
  • Contribute to a positive team environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned
