About The Position

This role requires a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job and involves working under the close direction of senior personnel. The Mechanic I will be responsible for maintaining and servicing mechanical equipment, machinery, and components. Responsibilities include performing skilled repairs on mechanical, electrical, and building systems, conducting periodic inspections to evaluate repair requests, identifying and ordering necessary replacement parts, and ensuring all work is completed in accordance with established safety procedures. The position may require completion of an apprenticeship and/or formal training. The role involves performing preventive maintenance duties, making repairs and modifications to production equipment in line with cGMP requirements, and responding promptly to demand maintenance calls. Troubleshooting existing systems and installations, and assisting with maintaining detailed maintenance records and parts inventory through the company's CMMS are also key functions. Continuous improvement of skill level in production maintenance is expected to keep pace with technological advancements and automation in production processes.

Requirements

  • Perform skilled repair of mechanical, electrical, and building systems and equipment when required.
  • Conduct periodic inspections to evaluate requests for repair.
  • Identify parts needed for replacement and place orders as necessary.
  • Complete all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Perform preventive maintenance duties.
  • Make repairs and modifications to production equipment in line with cGMP requirements.
  • Respond in a timely manner to demand maintenance calls.
  • Troubleshoot existing systems and installations.
  • Assist with maintaining detailed maintenance records and parts inventory through the effective use of company CMMS.
  • Improve skill level in production maintenance to keep up with advances in technology and automation in the production processes.
  • Read pneumatic, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical schematics.
  • Utilize basic electronic test equipment (volt/ohm and amp meter).
  • Work with pneumatics and electrical controls, pipefitting, welding, and mechanics.
  • Assist with installation checkout, and start-up of new or modified plant production equipment.
  • Order maintenance machine parts.
  • Track and turn in repair parts.
  • Assist Maintenance Supervisor or Manager with facts and details for formal investigations.
  • Upload and download PLC programs.
  • Record all downtime on the appropriate form for reporting to Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Train other mechanics as requested, must be a qualified fellow employee (QFE).
  • Maintain plant tools and toolboxes in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Adhere to cGMP guidelines, SOP’s, and plant policies/rules.
  • Recognize problem trends and propose solutions.
  • Effectively communicate in both verbal and written form the nature of the problem and proposed resolutions.
  • Troubleshooting aptitude.
  • Able to communicate system knowledge to other mechanics.
  • Must be able to use tools such as, but not limited to, voltmeters, amp meters VPU's microprocessors, hand tools, welders, sheet metal equipment calipers, and micrometers.
  • Must be able to work with all customers and peers to understand situations and properly communicate issues and resolution.
  • Must be able to use computer software including word processing, work order processing (CMMS), and e-mail.
  • Must be able to understand and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and functions of industry standard symbols.
  • Must have a basic understanding of programmable logic controllers (PLC) and variable frequency drives (VFD) operation and setup.
  • Ability to use Outlook mail required.
  • Must be able to work overtime during the week and on weekends, adjust schedule quickly and willing to be called in to meet operational demands to minimize downtime.
  • Provide company with current working phone number.
  • May be required to become Qualified Fellow Employee (QFE) and forklift operator.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
  • Troubleshoots common equipment issues efficiently and effectively.
  • When opportunities present themselves, able to make minor improvements to equipment.
  • Performs maintenance in a safe manner, utilizing the correct tools and ensuring equipment is fully functional before turning over to production.
  • Performs required maintenance when assigned, following all checklists.
  • Takes and provides feedback to others in a professional manner.
  • Understands the importance of teamwork and helps others whenever called upon.
  • Works well with both peers and management, communicating effectively and actively listening.
  • Participates in Improvement events when directed by management and assists in sustainment efforts.
  • Basic knowledge of and application of improvement tools when called upon by Dispatch / Production.
  • Looks for opportunities to improve daily processes and assists others with process improvements.
  • Operates all equipment in a safe manner, ensuring both people and equipment are kept safe from harm.
  • Understands the basic operations of assigned resource and maintains efficiency standards across skus / equipment capability.
  • Achieves change-over/lot changes standards and conducts successful new starts with minimal quality or efficiency issues.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High School diploma required.
  • Requires 0-2 years’ experience.
  • Previous experience with industrial mechanical, electrical or similar systems is strongly preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty.
  • A certification or degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • An associate degree or certification from an accredited college or university is preferred.
