Reporting to the Supervisor, Mechanical Services, the Steamfitter position is responsible for performing skilled steamfitter work associated with the installation, inspection, trouble-shooting, maintenance and repair of steam distribution systems on campus. Responsibilities will align with the Plant Operations goal of contributing towards providing a safe and accessible, invitingly clean and comfortable, functionally-enriched and well-maintained campus environment through service excellence.

Requirements

  • Current Ontario Certificate of Qualification as a Steamfitter (307A)
  • A G License / Driver's Abstract, Red Seal Certification is required.
  • Five (5) years of experience within the Steamfitter trade, service and troubleshooting background preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the installation, alteration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of steam systems up to 210PSI
  • Demonstrated and in-depth understanding of all related tools and shop equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand steam and mechanical system drawings
  • Must be customer and team oriented, able to work independently as well as in a group /team environment
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario class “G” driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Additional related qualifications such as Plumber, Pipefitter, Millwright or Welder are an asset
  • Work experience within a major institutional sector(s), such as education, medical/hospital or related construction industry preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs regular preventative maintenance on all steam system devices, including thorough inspection and repair of steam traps
  • Repairs steam, condensate, heating and ventilation systems
  • Installs and/or replaces piping
  • Identifies system problems and determines, organizes and executes the required action to keep the steam system functioning
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and drawings, makes accurate material takeoffs, and writes summary reports of condition assessment surveys when necessary.
  • Estimating costs of new installations and repairs
  • Able to organize and execute multi trade projects
  • Ensuring University facilities and departmental activities are compliant with all applicable legislation, regulations, codes and standards related to facilities operations as well as occupational health and environmental safety.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned and supports departmental activities
  • Work cooperatively with other trades, service providers and contractors
