About The Position

The Shift Maintenance Mechanic I is responsible for maintaining utility, process, and building equipment at a proficient level to maximize equipment availability and minimize overall maintenance costs. This role requires a high level of dedication to safety excellence, positive human relations, and strict environmental compliance while performing regular equipment inspections, diagnostics, and repairs. This role works on a 2-2-3 rotating 12 hour shift schedule, which includes alternating blocks of day and night shifts (including alternating weekends).

Requirements

  • Associate's degree directly related to the position (e.g., Electronics/Electrical, Instrumentation Technology, Engineering, Refrigeration, HVAC, Welding/Metal Fabrication, or other applicable technical degree) PLUS two years industrial maintenance experience in the appropriate disciplines (e.g., Instrumentation, Electronics, Industrial Electrical, Refrigeration, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Plumbing/Pipe Fitting, Welding, Production Machine Maintenance, High Pressure Boilers, Pure Water Systems, Utility Systems, Repair and Overhaul, etc.); OR HS diploma or equivalent with six years of industrial maintenance experience in appropriate disciplines (e.g., Instrumentation, Electronics, Industrial Electrical, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Plumbing/Pipe Fitting, Welding, Production Machine Maintenance, High Pressure Boilers, Pure Water Systems, Utility Systems, Repair and Overhaul, etc.)
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Ability to analyze maintenance problems and develop corrective actions in a timely manner
  • Self-motivated, responsible, and Safety Oriented individual.
  • Ability to work with outside vendors and contractors to perform maintenance task

Responsibilities

  • Show behavior in line with the SHE and Security risks and agreed controls, including being compliant to Avient requirements, rules, and procedures.
  • Assures that all employees follow established occupational safety rules, housekeeping, Hazmat regulations, JSAs and SOPs.
  • Address and report person(s) behaving in a SHE and Security irresponsible manner and document observed risks.
  • Abides by Avient Protective Materials procedures/policies regarding security, inclusive of: employee security agreements; use of non-disclosure agreements with outside parties; control of Avient Protective Materials intellectual property limited to a “need to know” only basis; no unauthorized use of cell phones, cameras, computers or APM property; reporting security threats and incidents; proper control of APM property and keys.
  • Ensure all work is conducted in a safe and effective manner and all applicable procedures and policies are followed to ensure that an injury-free and incident-free workplace is maintained.
  • Comply with all job-related safety and other training requirements.
  • Is compliant with relevant laws, regulatory requirements, SOP’s, and other related documentation and activities.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair industrial equipment and machinery to ensure they’re always in proper working order.
  • Test and observe equipment and machinery using tools such as voltmeters and other testing devices to diagnose malfunctions and make repairs as needed.
  • Care for machinery and equipment by cleaning them after use, adjusting parts and lubricating moving components as needed to ensure proper, efficient function.
  • Examine moving parts on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis for signs of excessive wear, defects, and damage.
  • Record all maintenance and repair services performed as required by company policies, procedures, or regulations.
  • Maintain and upgrade technical and non-technical skills through participation in company and outside training programs.
  • Assist with the training of other employees as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • If trained and knowledgeable, is authorized to issue Work Permits per procedure.
  • This position involves work with (supervision of) and/or handling hazardous materials and waste at the Avient Protective Materials (Greenville, NC) work site.
  • Worker has the appropriate qualifications to read, understand, apply and communicate written and verbal information regarding handling and managing hazardous wastes.
  • Training is required within six months of worker assuming duty, and once a year thereafter.
  • Worker is responsible for proper handling, documentation, inspection and transporting around the facility of hazardous wastes.
  • Worker may also be responsible for responding to emergencies involving hazardous waste.
