About The Position

The Mechanic (General Technician) supports the Truck Shop team by assisting with the maintenance, repair, and operation of Walla Walla Nursery Co.’s fleet and facility equipment. This position performs a wide range of mechanical and general labor tasks, including servicing vehicles, supporting fabrication projects, maintaining shop organization, and assisting senior technicians and supervisors with daily repair needs. The Mechanic plays a vital role in keeping trucks, trailers, tractors, RTVs, wagons, and small engines in safe and reliable operating condition. This position requires strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn and perform diverse tasks within the shop environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge or prior experience working with vehicles, equipment, or tools preferred.
  • Ability to use basic hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to follow direction.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Class A CDL.
  • Willingness to learn and develop mechanical and fabrication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of company vehicles, including trucks, trailers, tractors, RTVs, and wagons.
  • Support small engine maintenance and repairs, including weed eaters, hedge trimmers, backpack blowers, and other handheld equipment.
  • Perform basic mechanical tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, tire service, and lubrication.
  • Help inspect and prepare vehicles and equipment for safe daily operation.
  • Report observed issues or needed repairs promptly to the Truck Shop Manager or Small Fleet Maintenance Coordinator.
  • Maintain shop cleanliness, organization, and tool accountability.
  • Assist with parts runs, equipment staging, and material handling as directed.
  • Help with basic fabrication, welding, and assembly tasks under supervision.
  • Support recovery missions, seasonal fleet preparations, and facility projects as needed.
  • Follow instructions and assist senior mechanics or supervisors on large-scale repairs or rebuilds.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Use tools, lifts, and machinery safely and responsibly.
  • Maintain awareness of surroundings and work cooperatively with other crew members.
  • Participate in safety meetings and ongoing training as required.
