About The Position

The Mechanic Helper will work closely with the Milling, Asphalt, and Maintenance Teams to ensure company-owned tools, equipment and vehicles are always maintained in good working order, consistent with direction provided by his/her direct manager. The ideal candidate has experience with maintenance of paving equipment, particularly asphalt milling machines, and a thorough understanding of asphalt work.

Nice To Haves

  • Work experience with maintenance and operation transportation, milling, quarry, and hot mix machines is a plus
  • Working knowledge of asphalt production and associated equipment, and an understanding of operations and safety requirements is preferred
  • Familiarity with MSHA and OSHA regulations, a plus

Responsibilities

  • Organize and inventory incoming parts
  • Perform scheduled and non-scheduled cleaning of trucks and machines in general and prior to repairs
  • Assist with light repairs, oil changes, brakes, leak repairs, etc.
  • Work with the Heavy Paving Equipment Diesel Mechanic and Equipment Manager to evaluate condition of defective tools, equipment and fleet vehicles located at the Yard or at construction job sites; collaborate in trouble shooting defective equipment and participate in discussions to arrive to solutions for dealing with defective items.
  • Following a standard maintenance schedule developed collaboratively with the Equipment Manager, perform a routine inventory of parts and facility needs on company-owned tools, equipment and vehicles. Ensure that inventory is performed on schedule, to standard and that accurate logs of such inventory are kept up to date.
  • Before departing work each day, ensure that the shop area is neat, clean and orderly; all tools are stored in their proper place and the shop surfaces are free of trash and debris.
  • Additional responsibilities as may be assumed or assigned from time to time in support of our company's effort to achieve client loyalty.
