About The Position

Lone Star Paving is a paving contractor operating in the Central Texas region with paving crews, HMA, aggregate, trucking, milling, and quality control. Our operations complete heavy highway and civil projects throughout Texas. We pride ourselves in being a family-oriented organization with a goal of upholding the safety and health of our number one asset, our employees. The Mechanic Helper will work closely with the Milling, Asphalt, and Maintenance Teams to ensure company-owned tools, equipment and vehicles are always maintained in good working order, consistent with direction provided by his/her direct manager. The ideal candidate has experience with maintenance of paving equipment, particularly asphalt milling machines, and a thorough understanding of asphalt work.

Requirements

Active TX driver's license with clean record preferred

Proper PPE is required at all times.

Nice To Haves

Work experience with maintenance and operation transportation, milling, quarry, and hot mix machines is a plus
Working knowledge of asphalt production and associated equipment, and an understanding of operations and safety requirements is preferred
Familiarity with MSHA and OSHA regulations, a plus

Responsibilities

Organize and inventory incoming parts
Perform scheduled and non-scheduled cleaning of trucks and machines in general and prior to repairs
Assist with light repairs, oil changes, brakes, leak repairs, etc.
Work with the Heavy Paving Equipment Diesel Mechanic and Equipment Manager to evaluate condition of defective tools, equipment and fleet vehicles located at the Yard or at construction job sites; collaborate in trouble shooting defective equipment and participate in discussions to arrive to solutions for dealing with defective items.
Following a standard maintenance schedule developed collaboratively with the Equipment Manager, perform a routine inventory of parts and facility needs on company-owned tools, equipment and vehicles.
Ensure that inventory is performed on schedule, to standard and that accurate logs of such inventory are kept up to date.
Before departing work each day, ensure that the shop area is neat, clean and orderly; all tools are stored in their proper place and the shop surfaces are free of trash and debris.
