About The Position

Valero is seeking a Mechanic 2nd Class - Pump to perform duties that support the company's commitment to advancing the future of energy through innovation, ingenuity, and unmatched execution. This role involves installing, inspecting, and maintaining rotating equipment within the refinery, specifically focusing on pumps. The mechanic will also adjust and align machinery and equipment, use hand and power tools, and prepare the work site. A strong understanding of basic physical and mechanical principles, craft math, and various equipment components such as bearings, seals, compressors, pumps, cylinders, valves, pipes, shaft packing, and drive systems is required. Knowledge of metal characteristics and lubricants is also necessary. The position follows guidelines and procedures to ensure safe and reliable operation of rotating equipment. This is an hourly nonexempt position eligible for overtime pay.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • A minimum of 2 years Rotating Equipment or related experience, which could include experience as a machinist, millwright, or pump mechanic OR a degree in one of these fields required.
  • Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Corpus Christi Refineries, required.
  • Eligible to obtain a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrates knowledge of basic physical and mechanical principles and craft math.
  • Understands bearings, seals, compressors, pumps and cylinders, valve and pipe configurations, shaft packing, and drive systems.
  • Understands characteristics of metals and is knowledgeable about the various types and applications of lubricants.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, inspects, and maintains rotating equipment within the refinery.
  • Inspects and performs maintenance on pumps.
  • Adjusts and aligns machinery and equipment.
  • Uses hand and power tools to complete assigned work tasks.
  • Sets-up, prepares, and inspects the work site.
  • Follows guidelines and procedures to ensure that rotating equipment is working in a safe and reliable manner.
