About The Position

HII is seeking a skilled Mechanic-2 to join our team supporting the Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces (COMUSFLTFORCOM) Berthing and Messing Program, which operates duty crew berthing barges that provide essential living and working spaces for crews during ship overhaul and repair periods. This position is contingent upon contract award. This opportunity resides with Global Security (GS). Requirements

  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 2 years of related experience.
  • Must provide basic hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems using diagnostic tools.
  • Experience conducting preventive maintenance schedules
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and OEM specifications.
  • Familiar with OSHA, shipyard, and Navy safety practices (LOTO, confined space, fall protection, PPE)

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer technical/professional certifications.
  • Experience supporting U.S. Navy berthing barges (APL) or afloat platforms.
  • Knowledge of NAVSEA drawings/specs and shipyard practices.
  • Experience with other primary and auxiliary shipboard systems
  • Familiar with OSHA-10/30, shipyard, and Navy safety practices (LOTO, confined space, fall protection, PPE).

Responsibilities

  • Installs, operates, maintains, repairs and modifies equipment systems aboard U.S. Navy berthing barges (APL) used to house ship’s personnel during maintenance availabilities.
  • Performs a variety of maintenance and technical support on products such as equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, and software at customer and/or field locations.
  • Analyzes and evaluates products and related performance.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses malfunctions to eliminate problem in minimum time.
  • Installs, upgrades and removes products ensuring coordinative engineering field change.
  • Maintains effective customer communications and relations.
  • May provide onsite training of customer support personnel.
  • Applies understanding of production and processes to assignments.
  • Performs a variety of complicated tasks.
  • May assist in the development and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.
  • Performs duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.
