About The Position

The Mechanic 1 – Lead Hand is responsible for overseeing the daily maintenance operations of the hotel while providing guidance and support to the maintenance team. This role ensures that all hotel facilities, equipment, and systems are maintained in a safe, efficient, and professional manner to maximize guest satisfaction and operational excellence. The Lead Hand performs preventative maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and coordinates maintenance activities while serving as a resource for team members.

Requirements

  • Commitment to providing exceptional guest experiences through high standards of maintenance and repair.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and repair a variety of building systems and equipment.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a maintenance capacity; electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, HVAC, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints and prepare basic sketches and floor plans.
  • General knowledge of WHMIS, occupational health and safety regulations, and safe work practices.
  • Proficiency in the use of power tools and hand tools.
  • Strong organizational, problem solving, and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Related College Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Must be available to work all shifts, including weekends and holidays.

  • Previous carpentry experience considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support maintenance staff in the completion of daily tasks and projects.
  • Maintain equipment history records and preventative maintenance schedules for all hotel equipment and systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on plumbing, electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, HVAC, and building systems.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and HVAC equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain water treatment operations and ensure proper system performance.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair kitchen equipment and other hotel assets as required.
  • Perform carpentry repairs and general building maintenance.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and floor plans to support maintenance and renovation projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, WHMIS requirements, and company policies.
  • Utilize Lockout/Tagout procedures before performing maintenance work on equipment.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency situations.
  • Assist management with planning, scheduling, and coordinating maintenance activities.
  • Provide training, guidance, and technical support to maintenance team members.
  • Complete additional duties and projects as assigned by Supervisors and Management.
