About The Position

The Mechanical Technician N 3 (Sheet Metal) fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs production sheet metal products and equipment, including control boxes, drain pipes, ventilators, and furnace casings, following blueprints, drawings, and specifications. The role involves preparing sheet metal layouts, setting up and operating fabricating machinery, shaping metal over anvils, blocks, or forms, and operating welding and soldering equipment. The technician inspects assemblies and installations to ensure they meet specifications and may monitor and verify quality using statistical process or other control procedures. This is a full-time position with Newport News Shipbuilding. U.S. citizenship is required. The role is not eligible for telework, and relocation assistance is not available.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent and five years of additional education and/or related experience; or an apprentice graduate or associate's degree in a relevant discipline and three years of related experience.
U.S. citizenship is required.
May require certification.

Responsibilities

Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair production sheet metal products and equipment.
Follow blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
Make sheet metal layouts.
Set up and operate fabricating machinery.
Shape metal over anvils, blocks, or forms.
Operate welding and soldering equipment.
Inspect assemblies and installations for conformance to specifications.
May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
