About The Position

The Mech Tech I 2 performs repairs and maintenance in plant or office facilities, or on machines and equipment. Work may involve one or more maintenance trades, including carpentry, plumbing, painting, machine and equipment repair, electrical work, sheet metal fabrication, and welding. The role conducts routine, periodic, or special inspections to identify maintenance and repair needed to prevent breakdowns of facilities, machinery, and equipment. The employee uses hand and power tools; tests, inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs machines and equipment; and works from blueprints, sketches, layouts, wiring diagrams, drawings, and specifications. This is a full-time position with multiple shifts at Newport News Shipbuilding. U.S. citizenship is required. The position is not eligible for telework, does not require travel, and offers no relocation assistance. Clearance is not required to start.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of additional education and/or related experience; alternatively, apprentice graduate or an associate's degree in a relevant discipline and 1 year of related experience.
May require certification.
U.S. citizenship is required for this position.
