About The Position

MECH TECH C 2 (FITTER) is a full-time position with multiple shift options. This role is not eligible for telework and does not require a security clearance to start. The position is with HII's Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division, the largest industrial employer in Virginia and the sole designer, builder, and refueler of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and one of two providers of U.S. Navy nuclear submarines. NNS has a rich history of 135 years and is at the forefront of technology, manufacturing, and integration of powerful naval ships.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience
Apprentice graduate/ Associate's Degree in relevant discipline and 1 year of related experience
May require certification
US Citizenship Required

Responsibilities

Lays out, fits, aligns, and assembles prefabricated cast and forged components prior to welding, soldering, brazing, or bonding operations.
Performs fitting and machining operations such as straighten, grind, burr, drill, ream, and countersink materials to close tolerances.
Refers to general instructions to select equipment, set up, and lay out materials to be welded.
May repair or rework parts to restore to required tolerances which have become distorted as a result of welding operations.
May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
