About The Position

The Meat Clerk works in the Meat Department at Sprouts Farmers Market, providing prompt, friendly customer service and maintaining strong product knowledge and safe food-handling practices. This hands-on role involves receiving, storing, grinding, and preparing meats; unloading and transporting meat and poultry deliveries; checking incoming goods against invoices; and examining and rotating products in storage to maintain freshness. The clerk answers customer questions, helps with special orders, shares information about weekly ad items, and directs customers to products throughout the store. The role also includes following the department’s procedural guidelines and the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs, while helping maintain a positive, customer-focused environment.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age.
Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
Be dependable and reliable.
Demonstrate outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
Be able to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Have good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
Be able to stand continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift, and walk up to 2 miles per 8-hour period.
Be able to work inside a temperature-controlled area.
Have good vision for using sharp knives, a band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
Be able to lift or carry products weighing 25 to 90 pounds horizontally or vertically between 4 and 60 inches, for distances up to 10 feet, for up to 20 hours.
Be able to use a pallet jack to move pallets weighing up to 500 pounds horizontally, requiring force up to 85 pounds, for distances up to 100 feet, for up to 5 hours.
Be able to move product racks weighing up to 70 pounds horizontally, requiring force up to 25 pounds, for distances up to 50 feet, for up to 10 hours.
Be able to move tables weighing up to 70 pounds, requiring force greater than 35 pounds, for distances up to 2 feet, for up to 1 hour.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and assist with customer questions, special orders, and other needs.
Maintain product knowledge and knowledge of weekly ad items, and direct customers to products throughout the store.
Receive, store, and grind meats.
Unload and transport fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks.
Count and weigh incoming goods and compare results against invoices.
Examine meats in storage and rotate products to avoid aging.
Follow safe food-handling practices and department procedural guidelines.
Follow the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs.
Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize the department work area.
Adhere to safety, health, weights and measures regulations, and company recipes.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
