About The Position

The Meat Clerk works in the Meat Department at Sprouts Farmers Market, providing prompt, friendly customer service and maintaining product knowledge, safe food-handling practices, and preparation techniques. This hands-on role receives, stores, and grinds meats; unloads and transports fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry; counts and weighs deliveries against invoices; and examines and rotates stored meats to prevent aging. The clerk assists customers with questions, special orders, and other needs, shares information about weekly ad items, and directs customers to products throughout the store. The role also follows the department’s “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs and all procedural guidelines. The position requires a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays, as well as working in temperature-controlled areas and completing department housekeeping and sanitation. Physical requirements include prolonged standing and walking, lifting and moving products and equipment, and using meat-processing and packaging tools. Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age.
Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
Be dependable and reliable.
Demonstrate outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
Be able to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Have good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
Adhere to safety, health, weights and measures regulations, and company recipes.
Be capable of standing continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift, and walking up to 2 miles per 8 hours.
Be able to work inside a temperature-controlled area.
Have good vision for using sharp knives, a band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
Be able to lift or carry products horizontally or vertically weighing 25 to 90 lbs., from 4 to 60 inches, up to 10 feet, for 20 hours.
Be able to use a pallet jack to move pallets weighing up to 500 lbs. horizontally, requiring up to 85 lbs. of force, up to 100 feet, for up to 5 hours.
Be able to move racks of products weighing up to 70 lbs. horizontally, requiring up to 25 lbs. of force, up to 50 feet, for up to 10 hours.
Be able to move tables weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring force greater than 35 lbs., up to 2 feet, for up to 1 hour.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and assist with customer questions, special orders, and needs.
Maintain product knowledge and knowledge of preparation techniques, weekly ad items, and product locations throughout the store.
Receive, store, and grind meats; unload and transport fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks.
Count and weigh incoming articles and compare results against invoices.
Examine meats in storage and rotate them to avoid aging.
Follow safe food-handling procedures and all Meat Department procedural guidelines, safety, health, weights, and measures regulations, and company recipes.
Follow the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs.
Perform department housekeeping and clean and sanitize work areas, including tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
