About The Position

The Meat Clerk works in the Meat Department at Sprouts Farmers Market, providing friendly, prompt customer service and supporting safe food handling, product knowledge, and preparation. The position receives, stores, and grinds meats; unloads and transports fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks; counts and weighs incoming items against invoices; and examines and rotates stored meats to avoid aging. The clerk assists customers with questions, special orders, and other needs, shares information about weekly ad items, and helps customers locate products throughout the store. The role follows the department’s procedural guidelines and the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs. It also includes general housekeeping and cleaning and sanitizing work areas, including tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers. The clerk works in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment and may perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age.
Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
Be dependable and reliable.
Show outgoing and friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
Have good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
Be able to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Be capable of standing continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift, and walking up to 2 miles per 8-hour period.
Be able to work inside a temperature-controlled area.
Have good vision for using department tools and equipment.
Be able to lift or carry products weighing 25 to 90 pounds, move them between heights of 4 and 60 inches, and carry them up to 10 feet for 20 hours.
Be able to use a pallet jack to move pallets horizontally weighing up to 500 pounds, requiring up to 85 pounds of force, up to 100 feet for up to 5 hours.
Be able to move racks of products weighing up to 70 pounds, requiring up to 25 pounds of force, up to 50 feet for up to 10 hours.
Be able to move tables weighing up to 70 pounds, requiring more than 35 pounds of force, up to 2 feet for up to 1 hour.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and assist with questions, special orders, and customer needs.
Maintain product knowledge and use meat preparation techniques.
Receive, store, and grind meats.
Unload and transport fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks.
Count and weigh incoming items and compare results against invoices.
Examine meats in storage and rotate them to avoid aging.
Provide information about weekly ad items and direct customers to products throughout the store.
Follow the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs and all Meat Department procedural guidelines.
Perform general housekeeping and clean and sanitize department work areas.
Follow safety, health, weights and measures regulations, and company recipes.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
