About The Position

The Meat Clerk works in the Meat Department at Sprouts Farmers Market, providing friendly, prompt customer service and supporting safe food handling, product knowledge, and meat preparation. The role receives, stores, and grinds meats; unloads and transports fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry; checks deliveries against invoices; and examines and rotates stored meats to maintain freshness. The clerk assists customers with questions, special orders, and product locations, and keeps up with weekly ad items. The position also follows the department’s procedural guidelines and the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs.

This is a hands-on, fast-paced store position involving housekeeping and sanitation, work in a temperature-controlled area, and use of meat-processing and other equipment. The position requires standing, walking, lifting and moving products and equipment, and the ability to work a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Have basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
• Be dependable and reliable.
• Demonstrate outgoing, friendly behavior, a positive attitude, and the ability to interact with customers.
• Have good communication skills and the ability to take direction and participate in a team environment.
• Be able to work a flexible schedule that changes with business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Be capable of standing continuously for up to 4 hours and for a total of 8 hours per shift, and walking up to 2 miles per 8 hours.
• Be able to work inside a temperature-controlled area.
• Have good vision for using sharp knives, a band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
• Be able to lift or carry products horizontally or vertically weighing 25 to 90 lbs., from 4 to 60 inches, up to 10 feet, for 20 hours.
• Be able to use a pallet jack to move pallets weighing up to 500 lbs. horizontally, requiring up to 85 lbs. of force, up to 100 feet, for up to 5 hours.
• Be able to move product racks weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring up to 25 lbs. of force, up to 50 feet, for up to 10 hours.
• Be able to move tables weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring more than 35 lbs. of force, up to 2 feet, for up to 1 hour.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service and maintain a positive, customer-focused work environment.
• Assist customers with questions, special orders, and other needs, and direct them to products throughout the store.
• Maintain knowledge of weekly ad items and product preparation techniques.
• Receive, store, and grind meats.
• Unload and transport fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks.
• Count and weigh incoming products and compare results against invoices.
• Examine meats in storage and rotate them to avoid aging.
• Follow safe food handling practices and Meat Department procedural guidelines.
• Follow the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs.
• Perform general department housekeeping and clean and sanitize work areas, including tables, floors, walls, cases, coolers, and freezers.
• Adhere to safety, health, weights and measures regulations, and company recipes.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
