About The Position
The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ODAFF) is seeking a full-time Meat Inspector in the Food Safety Division. This position (PIN #04000772) is in state government and will be required to work throughout Oklahoma with primary counties being Oklahoma, Grady, Canadian and Cleveland. The State of Oklahoma offers a comprehensive Benefits Package, including a generous benefit allowance to offset the cost of insurance premiums for employees and their eligible dependents. The hourly pay for this position is up to $25.07 based on education and experience.
Requirements
- Knowledge of procedures for inspecting, evaluating and grading various agricultural commodities
- Knowledge of state and USDA regulations governing the standards and transport of applicable agricultural products
- Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding packaging, labeling and other standards related to agricultural products
- Knowledge of environmental and sanitation standards
- Knowledge of materials and equipment used in the applicable agricultural industry
- Knowledge of various types of animal and plant diseases
- Knowledge of record keeping
- Knowledge of basic mathematics including percentages
- Knowledge of English usage
- Ability to conduct inspections related to agricultural products, services, and facilities to determine compliance with established standards, laws and regulations
- Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Ability to attend to several matters simultaneously
- Ability to operate and maintain monitoring and detection equipment
- Ability to apply research methodologies
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Conduct themselves in a professional manner that represents the State of Oklahoma at all times

Responsibilities
- Quickly identify abnormalities in food animals prior to and after slaughter
- Recognize and identify actual and potential food safety hazards in the meat-processing environment
- Perform agriculture inspections at meat processing establishments
- Complete and submit reports and documents
- Collect, package and ship samples
