The Assistant Meat Manager partners with the Meat Manager to oversee the department's operations, including financial stewardship, customer service, merchandising, food safety, work safety, communication, hiring, training, and performance management. Requirements

  • Previous customer service, food service, retail or grocery experience required.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience required.
  • Entry to mid-level proficiency with MS Office.
  • Skills to manage financial results, including labor, sales and profit margin.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Basic to intermediate math and computation skills required.
  • Skills to read, understand and follow through on verbal and written instructions.
  • Skills to exercise good judgment at all times.
  • Skills to resolve conflicts and analyze a variety of situations to find a solution.
  • Should have the ability to speak, read and understand English.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of retail Meat and Seafood departments preferred.
  • Butcher shop or meat fabrication industry experience acceptable.
  • Prior meat cutting / fabrication experience highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge with POS, inventory or other retail specific software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with Meat Manager to manage and provide oversight to all areas of the department.
  • Assesses, prioritizes and delegates tasks and production.
  • Ensures consistency of department conditions, including stocking, rotation, facing, and merchandising standards.
  • Partners with department manager to ensure satisfactory in-stock conditions and maintains appropriate inventory levels to achieve sales and margin goals.
  • Orders meat products according to anticipated sales and seasonal needs.
  • Trains staff to write orders and production schedules consistent with department goals and standards.
  • Ensures all Meat and Seafood items are cut, trimmed and processed to company standards.
  • Builds displays and arranges department products for attractive presentations.
  • Partners with department manager to plan for weekly ads, events and holidays.
  • Maintains professional vendor relationships.
  • Coordinates with Promotions department to plan and conduct in-store tastings.
  • Ensures customer special orders are accurately placed and delivered.
  • Receives and unloads merchandise; checks quality, count and condition.
  • Stocks and rotates products with attention to product quality and expiration dates.
  • Maintains the organization, rotation and cleanliness of back stock areas.
  • Wraps, weighs and prices Meat and Seafood products according to department policy.
  • Assists customers with product selection, shares product knowledge, and makes recommendations.
  • Ensures department compliance with company organic standards.
  • Partners with department manager to plan, lead and analyze the monthly perishable inventory.
  • Works with department manager to meet labor and margin goals and schedules department accordingly.
  • Coaches department to maintain appropriate, accurate and organized inventory and back stock.
  • Handles damaged and spoiled product according to company policy.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of department equipment and is able to train staff and troubleshoot errors.
  • Leverages resources and labor to maximize efficiency without compromising quality and service standards.
  • Balances administrative tasks with presence on floor.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.
  • Engages the customer in a friendly manner, shares product information and assists in locating product throughout the store.
  • Seeks opportunities to exceed customer expectations and enhance the customer experience.
  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company expectations and applicable laws.
  • Partners with department manager to provides oversight to all areas of the team.
