About The Position

This is an entry-level training position with direct Supervision. This position will learn from on-the-job training and classroom instruction in the processes to assist in the support of the SCADA system; to inspect, repair, prove, calibrate and adjust meters and regulators; assist with large meter sets; assist in the installation of flow computers, volume correctors, RTU ’s, pressure monitors and SCADA control systems. Incumbent has 18 months to accomplish training milestones required of this position to include all Operator Qualification requirements. Failure to do so could affect employment. Incumbents in this position will be held to the District’s Gold Standard for Customer Service.

Requirements

  • High School diploma and two to four years directly related experience.
  • Two years of college (Associates Degree).
  • Capability to read, understand and follow instructions and directives, including District’s O&M directions, local, state and/or federal regulations or policies
  • Solid math skills are required.
  • Legible, understandable handwriting ability.
  • Competency to read, comprehend and/or interpret and accurately forward detailed verbal and numeric information.
  • Maintain a regular, dependable attendance and a high level of performance.
  • Ability to understand and comply with all safety procedures and wear personal protective equipment;
  • Must be able to work with a team, take direction from supervisor(s), keep required work schedules, prioritize work schedule, focus on attention to details, and follow safety and work procedures.
  • This position requires knowledge and task evaluation as determined by Pipeline and Hazardous Material Safety Administration rule CFR 49, Part 192; Subpart N: Operator Qualifications (OQ).
  • Must possess and maintain valid Florida driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the District and its insurers.
  • Skills to operate power tools and small lawn maintenance equipment.
  • Capability to read, interpret and organize equipment and associated paperwork in a logically prescribed manner.
  • Ability to perform basic mechanical work associated with natural gas facilities and pipelines
  • With supervision, incumbent will assist in the installation, operation, calibration, testing and repair of natural gas measurement and regulation equipment throughout the District.
  • Must be appropriately dressed in a clean and neat District authorized uniform during work hours.
  • Requires bending, stooping, crawling, climbing and moderate lifting.
  • Must be capable of working from ladders and elevated areas.
  • Works inside and outside.
  • Exposed to rain and seasonal weather extremes.
  • Exposed to fires, toxic fumes, electrical shocks from high voltage, and dog bites.
  • Must be able to work with power tools and other hazardous equipment.
  • Employees in this classification will be subject to undergo testing for illegal drugs in accordance with DOT Pipeline Safety Regulations, Code of Federal Regulation, Title 40 (49 CFR), Part 199.

Responsibilities

  • Train to assist in monitoring, calibrating and downloading data from flow computers, volume correctors, RTU’s, pressure monitors and SCADA measurement equipment.
  • Train to assist in responding to SCADA alerts and troubleshooting RTU’s.
  • Train to prove, calibrate, and adjust meters.
  • Train to perform pressure test utilizing digital and mechanical charts.
  • Train to Builds, inspects, and maintains large-volume meter sets, high-pressure sets, and regulator stations.
  • Train to monitor odorant levels and assists adjusting injection rates.
  • Train to respond to leak calls and performs measurement checks.
  • Assist in building meter sets and meter bars, as needed.
  • Assists with large meter sets.
  • Inspects District vaults.
  • Repairs and cleans meters.
  • Maintains tools and equipment in prescribed manner.
  • Maintains control of inventory items obtained from stock or carried on truck.
  • Must be able to safely and responsibly operate the automotive vehicle assigned. Must maintain assigned vehicle through appropriate operator maintenance and by keeping said vehicle clean and neat at all times.
  • Other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
