About The Position

The Measles Epidemiologist II works to minimize measles-related morbidity and mortality among Indiana residents by conducting complex epidemiological surveillance, investigations, analyses, and related public health activities. The role maintains subject matter knowledge, provides consultation and technical assistance to public health partners and the public, coordinates case and outbreak investigations, designs and conducts epidemiologic studies, and manages and analyzes surveillance and study data. It also communicates findings through reports, presentations, trainings, and public outreach, and may contribute to grant and funding proposals. The position may lead an assigned work group and includes recruiting, onboarding, training, and evaluating employees where applicable. The employee is expected to exercise independent judgment, respond to emerging public health threats, protect patient confidentiality, collaborate with internal and external partners, and bring complex or controversial matters to a supervisor. Work is initially closely supervised and becomes more independent with experience; completed work is reviewed for feasibility, policy alignment, and effectiveness. The role requires travel on most workdays to conduct field activities and prepare reports at work sites or the employee’s home. The employee reports to the agency office for occasional meetings or events. The job posting also specifies a hybrid arrangement at 2 N Meridian St, Indianapolis, with two days in person and three remote, potentially fewer in-person days depending on meetings and trainings. Occasional and/or overnight travel is required. The role is performed in a standard office environment and may involve extended periods of sitting. Work hours may vary to meet operational and staffing needs; an after-hours on-call assignment may apply for approximately two to three weeks per year, if applicable to the program area.
