The Measles Epidemiologist conducts a broad range of investigative and analytical epidemiological activities to support measles surveillance and minimize measles-related morbidity and mortality among Indiana residents. The role requires expert or rapidly acquired knowledge of disease epidemiology and biology, independent judgment in complex situations, and the ability to reprioritize work in response to emerging public health threats. The employee initially works under close supervision and gains independence with experience, while keeping the supervisor informed of progress and complex or critical issues. The position works closely with the CDC, laboratories, health care providers, local health departments, other state agencies, and internal and external partners. It may serve as team lead for an assigned work group and may involve recruiting, onboarding, training, and evaluating employees. Essential duties require travel on most workdays to investigate clients, customers, or other regulated entities; occasional office attendance is required for meetings or events. Occasional overnight travel and extended periods of sitting may be expected. Work hours may vary to meet operational and staffing needs. If applicable to the program area, the epidemiologist may be on call after business hours for approximately two to three weeks per year.
